Facebook Fast Facts
September 25, 2008 – 3:30 pm by Griffin HammondI was doing research for work, and compiled some interesting numbers regarding Facebook:
- Facebook is the fifth most popular website in the U.S. (behind Google, Yahoo, MySpace, then YouTube) and also fifth globally (behind Yahoo, Google, YouTube, then Windows Live).¹
- Currently there are 32 million regsistered users in the U.S.,² a number which has doubled in the past year.³ MySpace’s growth has been roughly flat this year.
- Approximately 15 people in the U.S. visit Facebook per second.*
- The average American user visits 12 times a month and spends a total of 3 hours and 7 minutes on the site per month.*
- 48% of American users are 18-24. The fastest-growing age group on Facebook, 25-34, nearly tripled this year, and makes up 24% of current users. Approximately one-third of users are 25 or over.²
- Good news for single men: There are more than 4 females for every 3 males on Facebook.²
- 36% of American users are in college or college-educated.²
- Only one-third of Facebook’s global users are from the U.S., compared to two-thirds of MySpace’s users.¹
- Facebook page average load time: 2.1 seconds. MySpace: 3.4 seconds.
You know what data I’d like to see? How many event invitations are sent by Facebook users vs. Evite users. And how many photos are uploaded daily by Facebook vs. Flickr vs. Photobucket users. I’m sure it would be depressing for the non-Facebook companies.
