Google Adds Social Media Avenue to Search
December 4, 2008 – 7:38 pm by Griffin HammondOn the same day Google announced their virtual world, Lively, would shut down at the end of the year, they unveiled their latest search engine technology - SearchWiki. Not a fully public, editable wiki in the sense of Wikipedia, the Google Blog reports that SearchWiki is “a way for you to customize search by re-ranking, deleting, adding, and commenting on search results.” Here’s the demo video:
You know what this means? For businesses, one more socially driven item to watch on the web. You’ll need to log in to a Google account to see how often users are bumping your website to the top of the list, or (hopefully not) deleting it from their search results. And the comments feature could turn into a very public review system, engaging your customers before you get a chance to, on America’s most popular search engine.
